On July 16, 1984 the founders of the ECYC, Allen S. Ames, John J. Carta, Thomas M. Daniells, Spenser Evans, John N. Field’s, Ann H. Horan, Dennis W. Walker, A.J. Wasley and Alan Wasley sent a letter to prospective members inviting them to join a new yacht club.

The purpose of the club was “to provide a facility and an environment of good fellowship for active yachtsmen and women at a modest price.”

The first commissioning was held on September 9, 1984 in our present Club house. The Club house was built in 1937 as the original Essex Yacht Club, which moved next door to their present location in 1982. Founder A.J. Wasley was elected Commodore, Danny Daniels Rear Commodore, Ann Horan Secretary, and John Carta Treasurer.

The dues for 1984 were $100.00 for the balance of the year with annual dues set at $200.00. By 1988, the Club membership had grown in such size that the lower level was added to the lease. During that winter the “River Room” was created through the efforts of ECYC members.

On September 24, 1994 ECYC celebrated its 10th anniversary with a well attended get together and dinner at the Club house.

The Essex Corinthian Yacht Club has continued to provide active yachtsmen and women an affordable facility with good fellowship.
