Entertainment

The Entertainment Committee has been busy working on end of the year events.  Here's the rundown on all the activities:

December 6  Decommissioning 4:00 pm
December 7 Children's Holiday Party 3:00-5:00 pm
December 14 Adult's Holiday Party 5:00-8:00 pm
December 31 New Year's Eve Rose Ball

Decommissioning is combined with our annual meeting and is a great wrap-up to the end of the boating season.  We'll have hors d'oeuvres prepared by Abby and BYOB.

On Sunday December 7, the Club will be transformed to a Winter Wonderland and the annual Children's Holiday Party starts at 3:00 pm.  This is a popular event, so sign up is required by December 3.  Santa will be passing out gifts for the children, so please make sure to bring your child's wrapped gift.  Make sure to label the gift! There will be activities and a storyteller who gets all the kids involved.  Snacks will be served.  This is a great way to share some holiday cheer with kids…young and old!

On December 14, we have our annual Adult Holiday Dinner from 5:30-8:00 pm.  Abby has created a wonderful menu, and we'll have some holiday piano music while you dine. This is another event that you need to sign up for, so please do so by December 11. You can also take a look at the menu when you sign up so you have plenty of time to make up your mind!

We have an exciting New Year's Eve celebration planned.  The 2003 Rose Ball is the final event this year and you won't want to miss it.  We have dinner, dancing and lots of party fun on the agenda.  Sign up early for this event because this event is always a sell out.

Many thanks to our talented team of volunteers who organize and create these wonderful events and decorations:  Yani Horan, John and Kristen Brady, Chris and Amy Brady, Don and Kathy Shannehan, Ken and Paula Munson, Scott and Candace Konrad, Carol MacElwee and Patty Murphy.

Whiffinpoofs set to sing at
Decommissioning & Annual Meeting

The Whiffinpoofs from Yale is a singing group dating back to early 1900's. To be Whiff is a senior privilege with members tapped from the Yale Glee Club. Most "Whiffs" continue on for a lifetime of singing in quartets or octets.  The Whiffs make a record usually every year but 3 years ago a group of the 1949-52  Whiff alumnae got together to make a CD of all the older songs that had not been recorded.  Thus the SLOTS came into being Slots is the acronym for the song "It seems like old times". The SLOTS  bring to you a compendium of songs essentially from over a 50 year period.  Although I went to Middlebury College, I was a founding member in 1952, of  Middlebury's Dissipated Eight . We just celebrated our 50th anniversary last year and the D-8 continues to be the premier singing group at Middlebury.  Many of my friends are Whiffs, and being inured in the tradition, I am privileged to sing with the SLOTS  and bring to you an unusual singing group

Commodore's Notes

Last month I reported that summer was "over". Thanksgiving reminds us that
autumn is in full throttle and winter is just weeks away. Seasons seem to help identify the pulse of boating. Warm weather produces the real pleasures of
being on the water, while the balance of seasons gives us an opportunity to
remember the past adventures and plan for the next year. But this year is far
from over as important Club events remain on the schedule.

Our Decommissioning and Annual Meeting will take place Dec. 6, with a
special appearance of a Whiffenpoof  group name the "SLOTS". The next day, Santa shows up at the Children's Holiday Party. The Adult Holiday Party is a week later, followed by the New Year's Eve "Rose Ball" on th 31st. Details appear elsewhere in Bell 8.

As you know, the Clubhouse will be closed in January for general maintenance
and some "freshening". There will be no Bell 8 in January but the February
issue will be published early. This has been a year of fabulous Club events on and off the water made possible by our hard working committees who deserve special thanks for their tireless and creative energies.

The Club would not be complete without Abby's Catering Service. Thanks go to Abby and her staff. If you would like to offer ideas for next year, please share your thoughts with any Club Officer or member of the Board of  Governors.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Remember, as every day passes, we are one day closer to spring. See you at the Club, in front of the warm fireplace.

2004 NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY

Please join us for an evening of dinner and dancing at ECYC's Annual New Year's Eve Party.  Come celebrate in style, and enjoy an evening of festivities with friends.  This year's 2004 Rose Ball promises to be a wonderful way to ring in the New Year with elegant decorations, great music, and delicious food.

Food will be provided by Abby, and includes a menu of fine hors d'oeuvres, salad, dinner, and dessert.  Entrees will be your choice of Prime Rib au jus, or Stuffed Apple and Sausage Chicken Breast.  Please remember to BYOB.

Our DJ, American Productions, comes highly recommended by Abby and several other club members.  He will be on hand to keep us dancing, playing from 7pm to 12:30pm.

Dress is black tie optional.  Feel free to play up the Rose Ball theme!  Sign up sheets will be posted in the club. Please remember to sign up early, as there is maximum room for 80 people, and an 8 person maximum per party. Ticket prices are $55 per person.  Please note that all sign up is in advance; no walk-ins the night of the event.

Looking forward to seeing you at this year's Rose Ball!
